Love People, Change The World |
"Love People, Change the World!" This is the simple idea behind Mason Love Week - that by reaching out to those in the global community who are most in need, each and every member of the Mason family has the power to actually change the world!
Love Week, which has become one of Mason's premier humanitarian aid efforts, is the tool by which we at Mason can affect real change in the world today - meeting real needs, righting real wrongs, and caring for real people.

The tradition of Love Week, which was founded by Mason Cru in 2010, began with Love Haiti. The goal of Love Haiti was to raise money to purchase food for the victims of the Haitian earthquake, and then ship that food to the Haitian communities who were hit the hardest. By purchasing official Love Haiti t-shirts and donating their time and hard work, the amazing members of the Mason student body and community supplied, packed, and shipped 100,000 meals to the earthquake survivors! As a campus, we followed up in 2011 with Love South Sudan and an exploration of what it means to take part in sustainable and empowering charity. South Sudan, having recently declared statehood, had issued a global plea for the farming seeds and training necessary for their population to transform from displaced persons to subsistence farmers. Through the t-shirt sale and a colossal effort to prepare seed packets, Mason was able to create and ship all the seeds necessary to start 12,000 family farms! Generations of South Sudanese will now have the tools and abilities to provide sustainable food because YOU decided to take a stand!

In 2012, we partnered with Global Aid Network (GAIN) to provide educational materials (backpacks, pencils, notebooks, etc.) to a town named Old Naledi. Old Naledi is currently undergoing educational development. As of September 2012, 70% of all Old Naledi children attending school drop out before reaching high school. Through Love Week, many children were outfitted for school and given access to a mentorship program, made up of student volunteers from the nearby University of Botswana. Encouraging letters, videos, and pictures were also done by Mason students and sent to the children of Old Naledi.

In 2013, we worked hard to raise funds and awareness about the current and ongoing issue of slavery and sex trafficking around the world. We partnered with International Justice Mission (IJM), which is a human rights agency that brings rescue to victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression.

In 2015, we raised awareness about the ongoing issue of the lack of educations available to children in Cambodia. We partnered with Samaritan’s Purse, a human rights agency that is dedicated to provide sustainability to the world by providing health care, hygiene and disaster aid resources to those in dire need.
